My ’93 Mazda RX-7 Touring

November 17th, 2008 · 1 Comment · RX-7

To kick off my first “entry” in the project journal, so to speak, I’ll start from the very beginning. During the summer months of 2008, I was looking EVERYWHERE for a nicely kept, low mileage FD. It took a few months of looking and I passed on a dozen different cars before I found the right one. Since the choices were so limited, I was forced to broaden my search to the entire country. Surprisingly, I found my car on Colorado’s Craigslist at around August.

The seller had been trying to sell the car since May, but he was firm on his price and there weren’t a lot of people comitting. Either way, I talked to him over email for almost a month, getting out all the little details and background information. The seller was nice enough to take a lot of pictures for me, and everything seemed great so I went for it. I never did an online type transaction, so it was a slight leap of faith, especially since I never testdrove the car. There wasn’t much choice, however, since this was basically the only car that fit my requirements in the entire country.

We set up an escrow and the deal went through rather smoothly. There were a few predicted stumbles and tensions along the way, but overall there was a high level of honesty and punctuality. The car was shipped from Colorado to California on a big truck, and it actually only took 2 days to deliver.

The car was scheduled to be delivered on July 3rd, but the truck driver was delayed at some checkpoint. Instead, I got the RX-7 on the morning of July 4th.

My car is a ’93 RX-7 FD3S Montego Blue on Tan Touring. At the time of purchase, it had 34.5k miles. It was mostly stock, but it had a few goodies… here are some of the items listed on the original ad –

It’s sad to see you selling the car. I just read your entire blog. I must say, whoever buys your car will be a VERY lucky person haha.
